Mumbai rains all set to intensify with Monsoon round the corner

June 16, 2016 12:18 PM |

Monsoon in MumbaiMumbai is still awaiting the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon 2016. Moreover, pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers have also been subdued during the last few days.

However, rains are now all set to pick pace up pace after next 24 hours. According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over west-central Bay of Bengal around June 17 and gradually move inland in west direction.

The system will help in increasing the Monsoon surge over the West Coast and we expect that the intensity of rain will increase over Interior Maharashtra as well as the coastal areas of North Maharashtra including Mumbai by June 18.

Further by June 20 and June 21, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers are expected to lash Mumbai and nearby areas. As per the weathermen at Skymet Weather, this rainy spell may mark the onset of much-awaited Monsoon over Mumbai.

This will be a prolonged wet spell which will continue for good four days spanning from June 18 to June 22.
June is one of the rainiest month for the capital city. Till June 15, Mumbai has recorded mere 43 mm of rain against the normal average rainfall of 523.1 mm.

The normal onset date of Monsoon over Mumbai is June 10. This year, due to the sluggish movement of Monsoon, it is yet to strike the city and has already been delayed by five days.
