Mumbai rains caused the city to almost sink. So much so that the maximum city had been reeling under one of the worst floods that the city had seen since the Mumbai flood massacre of the year 2005. Incessant rains lashed the capital city of Maharashtra throughout the day causing panic and chaos across the capital city of Maharashtra.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Mumbai recorded a whopping 331 mm of rainfall which happens to be the highest in about two decades during the month of August. The last time the city recorded such incessant rains was on August 23, 1997.

These rains were attributed to the presence of two weather systems. One of them being a well marked low pressure area which was in proximity of Mumbai. Also, the off-shore trough along the West Coast was active as well resulting in enhanced rainfall activity over the capital city of Maharashtra.

Now this weather system has shifted towards central parts of the Gujarat region and is likely to become a depression. Thus, in the coming 24 hours, rainfall belt will shift towards the Gujarat region and heavy showers will be observed over the state.
Meanwhile, the rainfall activity is expected to witness a significant decrease and only scattered light rains with one or two moderate spells of showers are expected. However, the situation will be much better than what it was yesterday and residents will be able to heave a sigh of relief.
