Updated on August 5, 2019: Mumbai rains which were heavy hefty a day back has now started showing signs of relief with the city not seeing any significant rains for some time now. Moreover, rains will remain on the lighter side for the city of Mumbai during the next few days.

In fact, Mumbai rains will now significantly reduce and will not make a comeback for the next few days at least.

Published on August 4, 2019: Mumbai rains have remained unstoppable since yesterday. And heavy downpour has made the situation worse with many areas being water-logged at present. As reiterated by Skymet Weather, three-digit rainfall made an appearance over the Mumbai city on Saturday. And Sunday also started on a rainy note only.

These heavy showers can be attributed to the Cyclonic Circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal, extending up to 6.7 km above the sea levels. Moreover, a Trough from South Gujarat is extending up to this Cyclonic Circulation. In addition to these systems, strong winds from the Arabian Sea are blowing over the Mumbai Coast, thus leading to enhanced rainfall activities over the city and its suburbs.

In the last 24 hours, until 5:30 this morning, heavy Mumbai rains to the tune of 173 mm have been recorded over Santa Cruz, while rains have crossed 100 mm mark over Colaba.

Heavy showers are still going on with Kandivali recording 180 mm rains since yesterday. Many other areas too have reported more than 100 mm of rain.

Now, we expect, heavy Mumbai rains to continue until late tonight or tomorrow morning. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected throughout the day, leading to intense water-logging and hence disruption to day to day life. Traffic jams cannot be ruled out. In the wake of heavy rains, some trains have already been short terminated or canceled by the Central Railways.

After 24 hours, rains may taper over the region and the situation may start improving. Fortunately, it’s a Sunday and looking at the heavy rains that rain gods have been showering, Mumbaikars are advised to stay indoors only and step out only if it is very urgent.
