Mumbai, Pune, Jalgaon, Nashik, Nagpur brace for fresh Monsoon rains

The Southwest Monsoon rains have gathered pace and intensity all across the state of Maharashtra, with marginal increase in the rains over the state. However, any good spell continued to escape Mumbai on Wednesday as well.

In the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 61.8 mm of rain, Dahanu 56.9 mm, Bhira 29 mm, Buldhana 24 mm, Nashik 15.2 mm, Jalgaon 11.2 mm, Harnai 10.4 mm, Vengurla 8.2 mm, Ratnagiri 7.5 mm, Chandrapur 5 mm, Aurangabad and Wardha 4.4 mm, Akola 4.2 mm, Thane 3 mm, Parbhani 2.5 mm, Udgir 2 mm, Kolhapur 1.6 mm, Yeotmal 1.2 mm, Alibag 0.6 mm, Osmanabad 0.5 and Mumbai, Pune and Sangli 0.2 mm.

Heavy rains with isolated very heavy rainfall at few places are possible over several northern parts of Maharashtra and North Konkan in next 24 to 48 hours.

According to Skymet Weather, a well-marked low pressure area is persisting over central parts of Madhya Pradesh and adjoining North Madhya Pradesh. This system is likely to shift slowly in southwest direction within the next 24 to 48 hours. The system is very likely to concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours.

Due to this, the offshore trough along the West Coast is also likely to become active once again extending from South Gujarat to Kerala across Konkan region. With this, heavy to very heavy rains are possible to occur over at several places of Coastal Maharashtra after next 24 hours.

Rainfall activities are also likely to increase over many parts of North Konkan, North Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining areas of Vidarbha.

Mumbai and Pune are also expected to record good rains after the next 24 hours. Places such as Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar may record heavy to very heavy spells of rain after the next 24 to 48 hours.

As on July 12, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Konkan & Goa region have been able to maintain normal rainfall status. However, Vidarbha is rain deficient by 27%.
