As the Monsoon 2017 nears, Maharashtra is gearing up for good rains and thundershowers. In fact, as predicted by Skymet Weather, good rains have already lashed parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada during the last 24 hours.

Some places such as Parbhani has recorded very heavy pre-Monsoon rains to the tune of 73 mm. Further, we expect these rains to now increase even further during the next 24-48 hours.
Strong surge of westerly winds is seen across the Konkan region, which will lead to intensification of rains and thundershowers across the Coastal Maharashtra including Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the trough which was earlier over Telangana, has oscillated eastwards over Vidarbha region. As a result, significant increase in Vidarbha and adjoining parts of Marathwada is also likely. Nagpur will also get relief from hot weather as some good spells of rains are likely over the city.
“We expect rains will further increase over Vidarbha, Marathwada and Konkan & Goa including Mumbai, which may continue till the onset of Monsoon. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur over Mumbai and nearby coastal areas between June 9-12,” said Mahesh Palawat, VP-Meteorology, Skymet Weather.
However, Madhya Maharashtra that include places such as Pune, Sangli and Satara will have to wait for some more time. For the next 2-3 days, the region will continue with subdued rainfall only. Thereafter, as the Monsoon 2017 will make onset over North Maharashtra, rains will increase gradually by June 10-12.
