After playing hide and seek, Mumbai Monsoon finally made an onset almost after a delay of fortnight. But that onset too was not a thumping one and it arrived with just 0.6 mm of rain.
Usually onset of Mumbai Monsoon is marked with the spell of heavy rains. Famous Mumbai rains continue to remain in hiding and since June 20, the city has recorded mere 14 mm of rains only.
However, rain in Mumbai are finally set to revive and the maximum city might see famous Mumbai rains.
According to Skymet Weather, active Monsoon surge has activated the off-shore trough along the West Coast. Besides this, a cyclonic circulation is seen east-central Arabian Sea off the Maharashtra coast. With this, Mumbai is all set to record heavy to very heavy rains in span of next 3-4 days. In fact, Mumbaikars might see rains crossing 200 mm-mark between June 27-June 29.
As per weathermen, rains would start increasing from tonight and would intensify gradually thereafter. Rains would pick up pace and heavy rains would be seen lashing Mumbai from the evening of June 27.
So far in June, Mumbai has only recorded 210 mm of rain against the average rainfall of 493 mm. with just four days left in hand, the target seems to be little tough but hope still prevails.
It would not be surprising if Mumbai achieves the target as three-digit rainfall in one go is nothing unusual for the city.
