During the last 24 hours, Santacruz has recorded 27 mm of rain. Overall rainfall over Mumbai and suburbs was much heavier and wide widespread.
There is a strong low level wind convergence along the West Coast. A trough is also extending from South Gujarat to North Kerala. These weather systems are responsible for active monsoon conditions over North Konkan including Mumbai.
Usually, an active monsoon condition can sustain its energy for 2 to 4 days only. Therefore, moderate to heavy rains will continue over Mumbai and suburbs until July 16 and will reduce thereafter.
The heaviest spell is expected on July 15th. During that time, there are chances of few intense spells leading to traffic jams and waterlogging in low lying areas.
Mumbai has already recorded 752 mm rain in the month of July against an average of 840 mm. By the end of this rain spell, Mumbai will certainly surpass its monthly rain average.
