Mumbai Monsoon picks up pace, more rain in offing

Rain in MumbaiMumbai continued to record heavy Monsoon rains for the second consecutive day. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 63.6 mm of rain, while Colaba Observatory received 52.9 mm.

Fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers were reported over most parts of the city on the entire day. With this, Mumbai has recorded 551 mm of rain so far against the monthly normal average rainfall of 799.7 mm.

At present also, rain-bearing clouds can be seen engulfing the city and Monsoon rains are likely to start over Mumbai any time soon.

According to Skymet Weather, the off-shore trough running along the West Coast is presently active along Konkan & Goa region, giving heavy to very heavy rains over the region, including Mumbai.

However, weather models are indicating that rains will take a slight break and rains will not be as heavy as before. During the next 24 hours, mainly moderate rains will continue over Mumbai but isolated heavy rains at few places cannot be ruled out.

Thereafter, rains will pick up pace again and good rains will return to city July 22 onwards. However, these rains will not be widespread in nature and heavy showers will be confined to few places only. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains will continue over the city.
