Mumbai heat to upsurge as March ends

March 21, 2017 2:42 PM |

Sultry weather to go hot in Mumbai after March 25 1

It has been more than a month since rain gods graced Mumbai and its neighboring areas. Dry weather has become main feature of the region along with hot and sultry afternoon. The mercury may not be scaling to new heights but they are scaling enough to make the weather uneasy.

In the last 4-5 days, the maximum temperatures of Mumbai are hovering just under the 35°C mark and for the next 48-72 hours mercury will not cross this threshold. At the same time the minimums are in the lower side of 20°C. But the average temperature observed over the region is in the higher side of 20°Cs.

With the absence of any major weather system around the region clear sky is observed. This has allowed the northwesterly winds to blow over the city. Thanks to these winds, weather during morning and evening hours are somewhat pleasant in the city. This breezy condition are only confined to early morning and late evening hours as the day becomes hot and extremely sultry.

According to Skymet Weather Chief Meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, “wind pattern is likely to change over Mumbai and the prevailing northwesterly winds will change and dry and hot inland winds from northeast direction will blow over Mumbai, allowing the temperatures to rise significantly.”

With no rain or any weather activity in place, Mumbaikars are likely to witness hot and humid weather for the time being. And after March 25, these weather conditions are likely to take a much hotter turn.
