We are now slowly moving towards the regime of a heat wave which will become more prominent in the coming days. Particularly, West Coast has been reeling under heat wave conditions.
As far as the plains are concerned, for heat wave, maximum should reach 40 degrees. Whereas for the coastal stations have a lower temperature range and heatwave occurs when the maximum tpocuhes 37 degrees with variation of 4.5 degrees or more. In the same breath, for the hills, maximum need to be at 30 degrees or more.
Talking about the city of Mumbai, it has seen maximums around 37.9 degrees yesterday, which amounts to heat wave conditions. In fact, today also, there are chances that Mumbai may see maximum reaching 37 degrees around the same time.
Temperatures have been on the higher for the city as 39.3 dgerees was already recorded on March 6. Conditions will continue to remain hot and humid for the region and today as well, heat wave like conditions will continue. The land breeze has set in for a longer period of time today.
Such high temperatures are common in March, maximums have also been reaching 41 degrees in the last few years including 2011, 2013, 2015, 2018 and 2020. Last year was mild wherein the maximum did not cross 37 degrees.
This time, we can expect maximums to go beyond 40 degrees as heat has started to build up. Moreover, temperatures are likely to be on the higher side only.
