Mumbai Gets Short Breather, Rains Return On Weekend And Next Week

July 10, 2024 3:06 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Mumbai was lashed with typical seasonal rains on Last Sunday and Monday. These rains disrupted essential services and crippled the normal life. The city amassed more than half of July rainfall in the first week itself. As expected, the rains have receded and most areas recorded single digit rainfall, including, Santacruz, Colaba, Alibag, in the past 24 hours. This relief is there for another 2-3 days before the next downpour begins.

Westerly stream has gone weak along the Konkan Coast.  The only significant feature over the country will be a cyclonic circulation over Uttar Pradesh, over the next 48-72 hours. This system is little far from Konkan to strengthen the monsoon current. Therefore, Konkan area including Mumbai will have light weather activity till 12thJuly. The city can expect sporadic showers, intermittent and light in nature.

A cyclonic circulation is forming over Coastal Odisha and Bay of Bengal on 13thJuly. It will further get consolidated before moving inland over parts of Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh. The circulation will move slowly westward to park over West Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan and North Gujrat region. This will trigger the monsoon stream from the Arabian Sea.

This will be a week long activity starting on 13th July and increasing the intensity and spread over the next 6-7 days. The city has to watch out for another deluge during the period between 13th and 19th July, more so, in the later part of this period.  Possibly, the city will catch up with the normal quota of the month. It may even fill the deficit of the previous month.
