Monsoon is all set to shift to top gear along the West Coast, particularly over Coastal Maharashtra. With this, the region including Mumbai is now likely to witness heavy to very heavy rains during the coming days.
Some parts of Coastal Maharashtra have already started witnessing very heavy to extremely heavy Monsoon rains. While, rest of the parts are also receiving moderate to heavy showers. Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.
Even on Saturday, moderate to heavy rains have been recorded in mere six hours only. From 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, Ratnagiri received 72 mm. This was followed by Mumbai which has also recorded 24 mm of rain during the same time period. Weather models are indicating that activity is likely to pick up pace during later part of the day.
With this, Mumbai has recorded 403 mm of rain so far, inching closer to surpass its monthly average rainfall of 523.1 mm.
Till now, Monsoon had been active over Coastal Karnataka and South Konkan & Goa region. However, with the passage of a cyclonic circulation in Arabian Sea, the off-shore trough is now extending up to Coastal Gujarat. This led to increase in rainfall over the region by manifolds.
