Mumbai has surpassed the earlier highest rainfall record of July. The rainiest city along the Konkan coast has clocked 1475mm of rainfall in July 2020. Few moderate showers are expected on the remaining two days and the tally could reach or cross 1500mm mark. The earlier record was established in 2014 when the base station Santacruz measured 1468.5mm, a little ahead of the previous deluge of 1464.8mm in 2019.

The month of June this season was a dampener with rainfall falling short of normal by about 120mm. However, rains caught up in July to recover the deficiency. The seasonal rainfall so far is 1871mm since 01st June which is 593mm more than the normal. The excess rains have nearly covered the normal rainfall of August (585mm). With two more days of moderate showers, the financial city, Mumbai, is all set to reach or exceed a milestone of 1500mm rainfall in July 2020.

The next heavy rainfall for Mumbai and suburbs is anticipated in the first week of August. Hefty showers may commence around 02nd August and last till 05th. A wet start in August is promising to end the season on a record note.
