Mumbai woke up to a rainy spell this morning. Many parts of Mumbai including Chembur and Kurla recorded moderate rains in the last two to four hours. One or two places also received heavy rains.
The reason for these rains is the presence of a Cyclonic Circulation is over South Gujarat coast. Also, a Cyclonic Circulation lies over Odisha and adjoining areas.
The same system has led to rain over many parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada and northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra in the last 24 hours. Significant rains were observed over Alibag which recorded 66 mm of rains, Jalna 63 mm, Mahabaleshwar 56 mm, Ratnagiri 48 mm, Parbhani 23 mm, Nagpur 21 mm, Aurangabad 24 mm and Santa Cruz received 12.7 mm.
In the next 24 hours, we expect more rains to the tune of 13 to 15 mm to lash Mumbai city.
Rainfall may marginally decrease after tomorrow over most parts of Maharashtra and a short break is expected before the rain intensifies yet again.
Good rains are expected mainly along the coast. Thus, we expect Mumbai to receive good rains during the Ganpati Utsav.
Thereafter, most parts of Maharashtra will continue with moderate spells for at least the next seven days. Regions like Vidarbha, Marathwada and Maharashtra coast including Mumbai will receive these rains. A few heavy spells cannot be ruled out. Heavy spells are likely in parts of Aurangabad, Akola, Ahmednagar, Nagpur, and along the coast.
