Maharashtra is gearing up for more rains in the coming days. Now, we expect rains to increase over Vidarbha and Marathwada for the next two days. In fact, Marathwada will get moderate showers at many places today and tomorrow.
Most regions in Maharashtra are running rain excess or normal at present. However, the region of Marathwada is still rain deficient by 24%. In fact, Madhya Maharashtra remained a high beneficiary of rains during the month of August and it is largely excess by 63%.
This rain episode may bring down the rain deficiency of Marathwada. Moreover, the water scarcity problem is very high over the region. Therefore, these rains will help to solve this issue to some extent.
Mumbai and suburbs may also receive one or two short spells of moderate rains today and tomorrow. However, heavy rains are ruled out over Mumbai and adjoining areas for at least next four to five days.
In fact, light isolated rain activities are going on over Pune since the last eight to ten days. Now, we expect only isolated light rains to continue over the city.
During the last 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rains occurred over the region of Vidarbha and Konkan and Goa. Isolated rains were witnessed over Madhya Maharashtra as well. While Gondia received a heavy 42.4 mm, Harnai 6.8 mm, Mahabaleshwar 10.7 mm, Mumbai 5.9 mm, Ahmednagar 7.8 mm, Buldhana 7 mm, Harnai recorded 6.8 mm. Marathwada however, remained dry.
By August 23, rains will once again reduce over almost entire Maharashtra.
