Madhya Pradesh, located in the heart of India observes very little weather activity during winters. Most of the weather is either confined to South India, where Northeast Monsoon brings rain to the region, or North India which is affected by Western Disturbances during this time. Both the weather systems – Northeast Monsoon and Western Disturbance hardly impact Madhya Pradesh.
However, the weather in east Madhya Pradesh is quite different from that in west Madhya Pradesh. During the Southwest Monsoon east MP receives more rain than the western part of the state. Similarly, winters are harsher in east MP with minimums dropping as low as 4°C. The far eastern parts of the state are much colder.
Khajurao in east Madhya Pradesh recorded 6.4°C as the minimum, while Rewa and Umaria recorded 7.4°C and 6.8°C as the minimum, respectively.
On the other hand, minimums in west Madhya Pradesh were way higher. Indore recorded 14.2°C as the minimum temperature on Friday morning, while Ujjain recorded 12.6°C, Bhopal 12.4°C, Jabalpur 12.4°C and Guna 11.5°C.
The reason for varied temperatures in the state is a low level anti cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh. It is a semi-permanent system and keeps oscillating, affecting west Madhya Pradesh to a large extent.
