Mountains Await Heavy Snow, Plains Foresee Weighty Showers

North India is gearing up for an extended spell of rain and snow, over the weekend. While the mountains are expected to be blanketed with sheets of snow, the plains anticipate moderate to heavy showers during the same period. Weather activity has already started, albeit on a milder note, but is likely to roar, anytime soon. Plains and mountains will simultaneously get flogged with escalated winter weather activity. The Plains of North India will get soaked during the weekend but the mountains may not get completely retrieved, till midweek, next.

An active western disturbance has made its way to the Western Himalayas. Its support system, an induced cyclonic circulation, has reached the plains. Together, the duo will act in tandem, to lash the region with somewhat intense weather activity. While the glaciers in the elevated area look for a timely recharge, the other water bodies too await replenishment to conserve resources for the upcoming summer months. Crops and orchards too, eagerly wait for these conducive weather conditions to boost the yield.

Foothills of Punjab and Haryana will have an equal share of inclement weather conditions. The lower parts of these states, along with large areas of Rajasthan,  Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh will witness rain and thundershowers between 01st and 03rd March. Bad weather conditions will lift from the plains from the 04th onward.  Scattered rains will travel to the far eastern parts of the country, for the subsequent 48 hours.

Heavy to very heavy snowfall across the mountain ranges will disrupt communication and connectivity. Roads and highways are likely to be blocked with deep layers of snow, landslides, and mudslides. Air connectivity may get hampered and some of the tourists may get stranded. Slopes and mountain peaks, along with adventure tracks will bear the risk of avalanche, post the event. Lightening strikes and thunderstorms are quite likely in the valley and ridges, across the areas. In addition to these hazards, hailstorms in a few places are quite likely, both, over plains and the mountains. Peak activity is likely on 02nd Mar, across the region.
