Most rain deficit state Gujarat to receive good Monsoon rains

July 20, 2016 12:56 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The state of Gujarat is the most rain deficit pocket of the country at present. For meteorological purposes, the state has been divided into two subdivisions. As of now, the rainfall deficiency in the subdivision of Gujarat Region is 40% while Saurashtra & Kutch received 51% less rainfall than normal.

The state witnessed widespread light rainfall on Tuesday after a long time. During last 24 hours, Veraval received 11.8 mm of rainfall, Baroda 6.1 mm, Rajkot 5.6 mm, Ahmedabad 5.1 mm, Bhuj 2 mm, Deesa 2 mm, Surat 1 mm and Porbandar 1 mm.

Skymet Weather expects a good spell of Monsoon rains from July 23 to 26. Many parts of Saurashtra and Gujarat region will receive moderate Monsoon rains. But, Kutch will continue to receive light rain.

Gujarat normally also does not receive very heavy rainfall during the Monsoon season as compared to the other parts of the country. Therefore, this spell of rain will hopefully bring down the rainfall deficiency in the state. However, we cannot ignore the fact that July is the rainiest month for Gujarat.

We can attribute the upcoming rains in Gujarat to a feeble cyclonic circulation developing over Saurashtra region.
