Varanasi, Agra, Allahabad, Banda, Jhansi and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh are all simmering under very hot conditions. The day temperatures here have continuously been rising. For instance Agra recorded 41.5°C as the maximum temperature on May 4, while on May 5 and May 6 it settled at 42.2°C and 44.5°C, respectively. These temperatures are 2-3 degrees above the monthly average.
Similarly, Allahabad saw the maximum settle at 43.5°C on May 4, while on May 6 it shot up to 44°C. Banda has also been observing similar weather conditions. The city recorded 43°C as the day temperature on May 4, while on May 6 it soared to settle at 44.6°C, making outdoor activity difficult for the people of Banda.
The weather in most parts of Uttar Pradesh is largely governed by the weather systems in northwest India. Currently, hot and dry northwesterly winds coming from the dry and arid lands of Pakistan and Rajasthan are affecting northwest India. The impact of these winds is also being felt in Uttar Pradesh in terms of rising temperatures.
The hot and uncomfortable conditions are going to prevail in Uttar Pradesh for next 4-5 days. Though a Western Disturbance is going to affect northwest India between May 9 and May 13, the system will have only marginal effect on the weather of Uttar Pradesh.
