A fairly clear weather, free of fog, was observed in most parts of the country on Monday morning. The national capital Delhi, that witnessed fog on Sunday also observed a clear weather. The visibility at the Palam airport at 7 am was recorded at 600 meters. This is a huge relief for the city witnessing cold conditions.
Meanwhile, Jammu in the hills saw the visibility drop to 100 meters, while Chandigarh in the foot hills observed clear weather with visibility of 800 meters. This shows that fog was not widespread in North India. East and Northeast India were the main pockets today where fog was observed.
Starting with Northeast India, Guwahati, the capital of Assam experienced very dense fog on Monday morning as the visibility dropped to 50 meters. In Agartala the conditions were better with shallow fog being observed and visibility recording 400 meters. Siliguri too witnessed shallow fog with visibility of 500 meters.
In East India, Gorakhpur, which has been a frequent observer of fog, breathed a sigh of relief on Monday as the weather was clear and the visibility was very good at 1000 meters. Allahabad too observed fairly clear weather with visibility of 400 meters. However, Agra, in west Uttar Pradesh experienced dense fog as the visibility dropped to 200 meters.
Down south, Bangalore observed dense fog at 7 am on Monday, a highly unusual feature for the city. The visibility due to dense fog in Bangalore had come down to 100 meters.
Meanwhile, nine flights were reported to be cancelled in Delhi, while the arrival and departure of 15 flights were delayed. Rail traffic was also hit hard with Swatantrata Senani express running late by 11 hrs. Sealdah Ajmer expresS is 13 hrs late, Brahmaputra mail 11 hrs, Jammu Guwahati express 11 hrs, Purushottam express 9 hrs, Northeast express 9 hrs and New Delhi Howrah express 9 hrs.
