While the temperatures are on the rise in most parts of the country, the weather in North India during early morning hours and night is pleasant. Minimums here are settling at a comfortable range of 12⁰C to 17⁰C, while they are in the twenties in other parts of the country.
According to the latest weather update, Amritsar recorded the coolest morning in the plains of North India at 12⁰C. Other cities that recorded comfortable morning minimums on Monday are: Ludhiana – 14.1⁰C, Hisar – 13.5⁰C, Karnal – 12.4⁰C and Delhi – 17⁰C.
“Rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir along with cool northwesterly winds reaching the plains from the hills is the reason behind the cool and pleasant mornings in North India, even towards the end of March”, says G.P Sharma of Skymet Meteorological Division in India. “Strong wind speed, of up to 20 kmph in the last 24 hours, is also a reason for the nip in the air”, added the meteorologist.
However, the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorological Division in India suggests that these morning temperatures may sustain for another 24 hours only. A rise of 1 to 3 degrees is expected thereafter, especially in Punjab. Cloud and thundery activity expected to occur on the night of 2nd April or the morning of 3rd April due to a Western Disturbance in the hills of Jammu and Kashmir is likely to increase the temperatures in the region.
Light rain in Delhi accompanied by thunder and lightning could also commence on the same date.
So far, Amritsar has been the coolest city in the plains. The highest minimum the city saw in the month of March, was 15.4⁰C on the 28th of March, while the lowest minimum was 6.9⁰C on the 8th of March.
Delhi on the other hand experienced the coolest night (10⁰C) on the 2nd of March, and the warmest (19.6⁰C) on the 27th of March.
The warmest minimum in India today was recorded in Kozhikode, at 27.1⁰C.
