The city of joy has been joyous as on and off light Pre-Monsoon thundershowers have been affecting Kolkata for the past two to three days. While the month of April remained dry with almost no rains during the entire month, May began on a rainy note.

The prolonged dry spell came to an end when Kolkata was lashed by overnight rain and hailstorm activity around May 4. Even after that, traces of rain were observed over the city. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Alipore observatory in Kolkata recorded 5 mm of rain.

Now, the maximum temperatures have been settling just a few notches above the normal levels. Presently, the maximum in Kolkata is settling at 36.8 degree Celsius.

Now, more thunderstorm activity is likely over Kolkata during the next few days. In fact, the city of joy may receive light thundershowers today as well during the evening hours. Kolkata and the adjoining suburbs may observe some weather activity today.

Thereafter, the possibility of isolated thunderstorm over one or two places cannot be ruled out. This weather activity will be attributed to the upper air cyclonic circulation which is over Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.

Starting May 12, the city of joy is likely to receive good showers. During that period, temperatures may witness a drop resulting in comfortable weather conditions over the region.
