More than 100 people have lost their lives in Assam due to landslides and floods. About 84 people died due to floods and 26 due to mudslide and landslide. Ongoing floods in Assam has affected around 27 lakh people.
The worst affected districts in Assam are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Shiv Sagar, and Tinsukia. Brahmaputra river is furious and had broken its embarkments in many places.
Also, ten rhinoceros have lost their lives due to these floods. Around 108 animals have lost their lives in Kaziranga National Park, around 136 animals were saved including two rhinoceros kids, 103 deer, and four tigers.
We do not expect any significant decrease in heavy downpour over Assam for at least the next three days until July 23rd. Thereafter intensity will decrease but moderate showers will continue. Another heavy shower spell is anticipated around July 28 or 29 over Assam.
