Heavy to extremely heavy rain is being observed in parts of Maharashtra for the last two to three days. The region of Konkan and Goa, in particular, has observed torrential rains in the past 24 hours.
Active Monsoon conditions are prevailing in Ratnagiri, Harnai, Satara, Kolhapur and Nagpur. More hefty rains are in the offing for these places in the next 24 hours.
According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Mahabaleshwar has recorded 380 mm of rainfall, followed by Ratnagiri 271 mm, Nashik 158 mm, Kolhapur 102 mm, Satara 85 mm, Thane 77 mm, Vengurla 74 mm, Harnai 71 mm, Santa Cruz (Mumbai) 62 mm and Sangli 52 mm, in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday.
Vidarbha region has witnessed a few heavy spells of rain recently, because of which its deficiency has come down to 3%. Similarly, some good rains have helped Marathwada to come under the normal category with rain deficiency at only 18% (+/-19 is normal).
Meanwhile, the rain surplus of Konkan and Goa, as well as Madhya Maharashtra, has shot up to another level. The surplus as of August 4 is 40% and 48% respectively.
According to our meteorologists, the rainfall activities would subside in North Konkan and Goa, as well as North Madhya Maharashtra and the Monsoon rains, will occur only with light intensity with a few moderate spells in Mumbai, Dahanu, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Malegaon and Jalgaon for another three days.
On the other hand, South Konkan and Goa, as well as parts of South Madhya Maharashtra, are not going to witness any relief from moderate showers, but hefty rains will take a backseat which will help in floodwaters to recede from the city of Pune.
Moreover, a Low-Pressure Area is likely to form in the North Bay of Bengal which will gradually travel in the westerly direction. Also, a Trough is extending from South Gujarat up to North Bay of Bengal across South Madhya Pradesh. The influence of these systems would be seen over Vidarbha and we expect good rains to continue in parts of the region for the next two to three days.
Meanwhile, isolated pockets of Marathwada adjacent to Vidarbha will get to see a few good spells.
