More showers approaching pleasant BangaloreBangalore weather remained dry throughout the month of April. So much so that temperatures witnessed a significant rise with maximums settling well above the normal levels throughout the month. The city was in desperate need of good showers.

In the beginning of May itself, rain gods answered to the prayers of the Bangaloreans. While traces of rain were recorded during the first few days, heavy rains lashed the silicon city on May 6, with Bangalore recording 47 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours.

On and off thundershower activity has continued to keep the maximums below the 35 degree mark. Presently, the maximum in Bangalore stands at 34 degrees, which is close to the normal levels. Minimums have also remained close to the normal levels as Pre-Monsoon showers usually occur during the late afternoon/evening hours.

On May 8 during the evening hours, many places in Bangalore witnessed thunderstorm and thundershower activity. So much so that in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Bangalore city recorded 5 mm of rain. Also, 4 mm of rainfall was observed at the Bangalore Airport.

These rains have been attributed to the wind discontinuity which is a semi-permanent feature and is currently passing through South Interior Karnataka. On and off thunderstorm activity will continue in Bangalore during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the intensity of rains are likely to witness a drop.  Until then, a few short spells of rain are likely to keep Bangalore pleasant.
