Good rains occurred in the month of July and August over the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. At present, both the states are witnessing active Monsoon conditions and continuous rain has been going on over the two. In fact, in the last few days, most parts of North Chhattisgarh and North and Northeast Madhya Pradesh have received heavy rains.
The situation is likely to continue over the central parts of the country for another 48 hours. However, light to moderate rainfall is likely to remain even after two days.
At present, a cyclonic circulation is over the central parts of Uttar Pradesh, which is attracting moisture from the Bay of Bengal. Apart from this, the axis of Monsoon trough is also passing through the southern parts of Uttar Pradesh, which until yesterday was very close to Madhya Pradesh.
The effect of these two seasonal systems would be visible in both the states of East India and Central India for the next 48 hours. In view of this, heavy rains may continue in some places in the central and northern cities of Chhattisgarh and northern and eastern cities of Madhya Pradesh.
During the past 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Wednesday, Umaria recorded 28 mm of rains, 11 mm in Bhopal, 8 mm in Jabalpur and Khajuraho, and 5 mm of rains each has been observed by Mandla, Rewa, and Sagar.
According to Skymet weather experts, heavy rains are likely to continue for the next 48 hours in some parts of the state. Chhattisgarh also received light to moderate rains in some places during the last 24 hours. During the last 24 hours, rains continued over Rajnandgaon at 10 mm. Other cities also received Monsoon rains.
Due to continuous rains, the temperatures in both the states have curtailed below normal which has given major relief from the heat and further relief can be expected.
If the rain figures from June 1 to August 29 is to be looked at, Chhattisgarh has recorded 3% more than the normal rains which are 944.4 mm. Meanwhile, East Madhya Pradesh has received 10% less than normal rainfall of 745.3 mm and West Madhya Pradesh has received 4% less than the normal which is 659.9 mm. With possibilities of more rains, the rainfall performance is sure to improve further.
