The states of South India are reeling under good rains from last many days and so is the present weather condition of Kerala these days. The state has been under the influence of rains from almost the beginning of the month. Due to continuous rainy spell, the maximums across most parts of the state have remained in upper 20’s.

The last 24 hours were no different and most districts of the state recorded scattered light to moderate rains. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Sunday, Alappuzha and Thrissur both recorded 13 mm of rains each, Thiruvananthapuram 9 mm, Karipur 6 mm, Kannur 3.1 mm and Punalur witnessed 2.6 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains were due to the persistence of a cyclonic circulation that can be seen over coastal Karnataka. Due to this weather system, moderate winds from the Arabian Sea have been increasing moisture over Kerala thus leading to cloud formation and finally resulting in these rains.

As of now, a trough is seen extending from South Interior Karnataka to the south-central Arabian Sea. On account of this, light to moderate rains are likely to continue over Kerala Until October 20. Mainly the districts of Southern coastal and Central Kerala are expected to get more rains in contrast with the districts lying on the north coastal belt of the state.

Thus, stations such as Alappuzha, Punalur, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram are likely to witness good rains. While, Kozhikode, Karipur, Palakkad will get to see comparatively lesser rains. After October 20, the intensity of these rains is anticipated to witness a significant reduction though isolated light spells will continue to prevail over the state.

The maximum temperatures are also likely to remain around 30-31 degrees but the nights will be comfortable.
