More rains to whip Karnataka and Kerala as Monsoon 2017 nears

As the Southwest Monsoon nears Peninsular India, most states of the region are witnessing good spell of  pre-Monsoon activities.

In fact, the states of Kerala and Karnataka have witnessed light to moderate rain and thundershowers during the last 24 hours. Since last few days, most districts of these coastal states are observing the pre-Monsoon showers of varying intensity.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Kannur received 24.4 mm of rainfall, Mysuru 22 mm, Bengaluru 13 mm, Kozhikode 12.2 mm, Hassan 11.2 mm, Mandya 10 mm, Mangaluru 6.8 mm, Kochi 5.1 mm, Ballari 4.8 mm and Chitradurga 3.6 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the wind discontinuity is presently seen over interior parts of Karnataka and Kerala. In wake of this, moist winds from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are increasing the moisture levels over these areas which have led to intensification of rain and thundershowers activities.

According to Skymet Weather, the weather conditions will remain conducive for rain and thundershowers over Karnataka and Kerala for another 24 hours as well. In fact, one or two heavy spells are also expected over South Interior Karnataka.

Thus, pleasant weather conditions will continue over many parts of South Interior Karnataka and Kerala.

The Southwest Monsoon 2017 is likely to reach Kerala around May 29, with an error margin of +/- 3 days.
