Holy shrine Vaishno Devi to witness rainy spells

February 19, 2017 1:30 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Rainy spell is likely to continue over Hindu Shrine Vaishno Devi during the next 24 hours. All thanks to the back to back Western Disturbances approaching Jammu and Kashmir.

A fresh system has now started affecting Western Himalayas and is presently marked over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining North Pakistan. With this, rain and thundershowers will once again pick up the pace Saturday onward. Sky has already become cloudy and rains may follow soon.

However, unlike few last spells, we do not expect snowfall this time. As we proceed further in February, both the frequency and intensity of Western Disturbances will reduce and these systems will not be capable of giving snow or any significant weather activity over Vaishno Devi.

Now, weathermen predict light to moderate rain on the weekend, with one or two heavy spell as well. Rain swill continue till morning hours of Monday, reducing thereafter.

As the Western Disturbances move away from the region, the intensity rains will also reduce significantly. Sky will clear up by Tuesday, dry weather conditions will make a comeback.

In wake of these rains, minimum temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir including Vaishno Devi have increased and are now settling well above normal.

Meanwhile, day maximum that have till now settling above normal, will now witness a dip. Thus, pilgrims thronging to the shrine must be well equipped of rain coats and sweaters to prevent them from cold weather conditions.
