Karnataka rain

Karnataka has been recording rains of varying intensity for the last many days. Now, the good news is that rains are going to stay put over the state for some more days.

During the last 24 hours, moderate rain and thundershowers with few heavy spells have been recorded across the state. Haveri has recorded extremely heavy rains to the tune of 113 mm in the span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, followed by Chikmagalur 70 mm, Dharwad 40 mm, Belgaum 32 mm, Gadag 15 mm, and Agumbe 8 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to a cyclonic circulation marked over North Interior Karnataka and adjoining area of Telangana. In the wake of this system, the wind convergence zone has formed till the Comorin area across South Peninsula. And, with this system to persist, we can expect light to moderate rain and thundershowers to continue for another 3-4 days. Few spells of isolated heavy rains are also expected over few places.

But most of these weather activities would be during the later part of the day, especially later afternoon or evening hours. Thus, the weather would continue to be warm and humid with the cloudy sky during the afternoons.

These ongoing rains would also be accompanied by intense lightning strikes. During the time of the withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon, thundery activities along with spells of lightning strikes also increase.

These rains would be extremely beneficial for crops like sugarcane, groundnut, cotton, and coconut.
