The Northeastern states of the country have been reeling under dry weather conditions since December. However, parts of the region that too higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh did witness some rains along with snow around mid-February.
As per Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance which was over Western Himalayan region is moving eastwards. Besides, this a trough was also seen extending from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, the cyclonic circulation is also prevailing over Meghalaya and adjoining Bangladesh.
In wake of all these weather systems, parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya recorded fairly widespread moderate to heavy rainfall.
Places like Pasighat recorded 13.3 mm of rains within a span of 24 hours from 08: 30 am on Tuesday, followed by Dibrugarh 29.8 mm, Goalpara 21 mm, Golaghat 13.8 mm, Jorhat 8.2 mm, Mazbat 16.4 mm, North Lakhimpur 14.2 mm, Silchar 41 mm and Tinsukia 60 mm.
However, intensity of rain is now expected to reduce over Assam, Meghalaya along with the other states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura (NMMT). But, scattered showers are likely to continue over Arunachal Pradesh for the next 48 hours.
These rain and snow will result in temperatures to drop by 3-4 degrees across the parts of Northeast India.
Though the region has been witnessing showers of varied intensity, however, these rains are not expected to cover up the prevailing rainfall deficiency of ‘seven sisters states'.
