During the last 24 hours, most parts of Gujarat have recorded light to moderate rain and thundershowers. In fact, one or two places also observed heavy spells. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Rajkot has received moderate rainfall to the tune of 30 mm, Bhavnagar 15 mm, Bhuj 12 mm, Amreli 10 mm and Valsad 9 mm.

Some other districts recorded light spell of showers including Veraval that witnessed 6.4 mm, Surat 4.6 mm and Surendranagar 2 mm of rainfall.
These rain and thundershowers can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation that was at 5.8 km over North Coastal Maharashtra and adjoining South Gujarat. Now this system is seen as a trough over Coastal Maharashtra.
So, we can expect gradual decrease in the rain intensity over Gujarat region, however southern districts such as Surat, Valsad, Rajkot and Bhavnagar may still see scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers for the next two days. The weather will remain pleasant across the region with temperatures continued to remain at the lower end.

Gujarat has witnessed hot and dry weather in past two months with temperatures soaring at most places. But since last few days, intermittent pre-Monsoon rains are impacting the state. These rains will be very advantageous for the sowing of Kharif crop as well as restoration of soil moisture and groundwater levels.
