Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata has been witnessing rain and thundershowers for the last two days. In fact, the city of joy, Kolkata has witnessed heavy rain and thundershowers in last 24 hours as well.
In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, the city has recorded a whopping 43 mm of rainfall.
So far, the city has recorded 93 mm of rain, which is the highest rainfall in recorded in entire month of March during the last 10 years. However, this does not stop here, as weathermen are predicting more rain and thundershowers for Kolkata.
These rains can be attributed to the presence of a trough that is extending from Assam up to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal.
Current status of rain and lightning and rain over Kolkata
As per Skymet Weather, these weather conditions are likely to remain the same for another 24 hours, with the city recording moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers today as well.
With this ongoing rain activity, the city has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 35.2 mm. Moreover, maximum temperatures have witnessed a significant drop and currently the temperature is hovering around 26.5°C.
For now, the people of Kolkata are observing pleasant weather conditions.
Before this rainy spell, Kolkata remained dry since February 22, when the city recorded light traces of rainfall of about 0.2 mm. Since then, the city was seen starving for some rain and thundershowers.
