The state of Kerala has been receiving some good rains for the past couple of days. In fact, the state has witnessed heavy rains in many pockets as well. As far as rain statistics are concerned, during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Kannur recorded heavy three-digit rain of 102 mm of rains, Kochi 86 mm, Karipur 52 mm, Punalur 51 mm, Alappuzha 51 mm, Kozhikode 31 mm, Palakkad 26 mm, and Thiruvananthapuram 29 mm.

These rains are likely to pick up further and good showers are expected today, tomorrow and day after tomorrow, i.e., between August 27 and August 29. The peak intensity of these showers are expected to be seen tomorrow.

The reason for these ongoing as well as upcoming rains can be attributed to a feeble Cyclonic Circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea off Lakshadweep coast. Another system is coming up over the Bay of Bengal whose effect will also be seen over the state of Kerala.

These rainfall activities are expected to reduce the rainfall deficiency that has been haunting Kerala for some time.
