The state of Maharashtra has been witnessing parched weather for quite some long time. In fact, if we look at the weather situation sub-division wise, the temperatures kept soaring high across Vidarbha and Marathwada, so much so that both maximum and minimums were settling above the normal levels by 2 to 3 degree Celsius. In fact, there are also few areas wherein the maximums have settled near the 40-degree mark.

However, the weather scenario has changed and took a u-turn, as scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers have occurred over Vidarbha and Marathwada during the past 48 hours. With this, the day as well as the night temperatures has dropped by 3 to 4 degree Celsius.

In comparison to the prior weather situation, now the maximum temperature has dropped and settling below the normal level by 2 to 3 degree Celsius. So, we can say that there is marginal respite from the persistent hot weather conditions over the mentioned regions.

As on Sunday, Buldhana recorded a day maximum of 38°C, Gondia 37.5°C, Nanded 37.5°C, Aurangabad 36.7°C, Chandrapur 36°C and Nagpur 34.8°C.

Now, also we can say that intermittent showers of short duration will continue during the next two to three days over parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada. During this time frame, the sky would remain partly cloudy.

As these are pre-Monsoon showers, they generally occur during the afternoon or late evening hours. Moreover, they are of limited duration, but would be able to sustain its grip over the region for a stretch of three to four days.

At this interval, let’s have a brief look at the impact of weather on agriculture in the coming days:

In the wake of intermittent showers, farmers are recommended to avoid harvesting and threshing of matured Wheat and summer crops until April 10. They should also keep the harvested produce at a safer place.

As the sky would remain partly cloudy, the threat of pest attack looms large. Thus, farmers can use proper spray of pesticide and insecticide. After the harvesting of crops, they are advised to undertake ploughing in the fallow lands instantly.
