More rains in the offing for Chennai, Tamil Nadu

The state of Tamil Nadu has been witnessing rains for quite some time now. These rains have been lashing the state on a continuous basis with no breaks after all. So much so that Tamil Nadu recorded a few good spells of rain in the last 24 hours.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Parangipettai witnessed a good 37 mm of rainfall, Tondi 26 mm, Salem 13 mm, Chennai 9 mm, Cuddalore 4 mm, Vellore 2 mm, Tiruttani 1 mm, and Tirupati 1 mm.

At present, a cyclonic circulation is persisting near southeast Coast of Tamil Nadu. Therefore, we expect good rains to continue over many districts of the state. Moreover, humid winds from Indian Ocean are also increasing moisture over the state.

Therefore, on and off rains are expected to continue over the entire state. In fact, the conditions are also becoming favourable for the onset of Northeast Monsoon. Thus, rain activities will not decrease over the state until the end of October.

During the next 24 hours, interior parts will witness good rains while coastal areas will witness scattered rainfall. Along with this Chennai may also witness light rainy spells with one or two moderate spells during this period.
