The pre-Monsoon saga has remained so far satisfactory for the eastern states of West Bengal and Odisha. On and off rains with brief breaks have been occurring over both the states for the last couple of days.
In general, pre-Monson rains over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is more in comparison with the rainy sessions over Gangetic West Bengal. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal mainly receives rain due to the effect of the remnants of Western Disturbances that move from West to east.
On the other hand, rains over Gangetic West Bengal is due to the occurrence of any cyclonic circulation over Bihar or surrounding areas. Additionally, the moist winds from the Bay of Bengal also trigger rains over the region.

While the coastal parts of Odisha generally receive rains due to the moist winds from the Bay and any weather system in the Bay of Bengal. Meanwhile, the interior regions of Odisha get to witness rains on account of any trough running across the region or under the influence of any weather system in the adjoining states of Chhattisgarh or Jharkhand.

In the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Contai recorded 35 mm of rains, Chandbali 27 mm, Kolkata 20.6 mm, Digha 16.8 mm, Sambalpur 15 mm, Jharsuguda 14.2 mm, Canning 12 mm, Balasore 12 mm, Jalpaiguri 10.2 mm, Midnapore 9 mm, Paradip 8 mm, Bankura 5 mm, Dhenkanal 3 mm and Bhubaneswar and Gopalpur received some traces of rains.
At present, a cyclonic circulation lies over West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. A trough is extending from Uttar Pradesh to Nagaland across the state. Hence, rain and thundershower activities are likely to continue over many parts of Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha along with moderate spells over extreme south of West Bengal and North Odisha.
The pre-Monsoon activities would also be accompanied by strong winds. On the contrary, the remaining parts of Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha may get to witness scattered rain activities. Meanwhile, parts of South Odisha may experience isolated showers.
The temperatures are expected to rise over Odisha. Additionally, isolated heatwave conditions can also be observed over the western parts of Odisha after 48 hours.
