Chennai and nearby areas have been recording scattered rain and thundershowers for the last 48 hours. Further, weathermen predict these showers to continue for another 24 hours as well. However, intensity of rain is likely to reduce.
According to Skymet Weather, the trough that has been persisting from Gulf of Mannar to North Tamil Nadu coast for the last few days. This was responsible for giving some moderate to heavy rains over entire Tamil Nadu. Few areas have also received some extremely heavy.
Chennai also recorded scattered light to moderate rain during this period over the few areas. In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, the city recorded 4 mm of rain.
Now, the trough is prevailing over South Tamil Nadu and hence, intensity of rains will decrease over the northern parts of the state including Chennai.
In wake of this, rains are expected at isolated pockets over Chennai today. Again, rain activity will be not be widespread in nature but few short spells only.
Thereafter, weather is likely to clear up over the state capital. On Sunday, weather will remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains will continue over the interior and southern parts of Tamil Nadu for another 48 hours.
