April 17, 2018 6:00 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The northeastern region of the country is one such division which has been constantly witnessing on and off pre-Monsoon rains. The number of dry days over the region in the month of April have remained on the lower side in contrast to the other parts of the country.

In the last 24 hours also, isolated parts of Northeast India recorded some rains. However, the intensity of these rains continued to remain light with one or two odd spells of moderate showers.

In the span of 24 hours form 08:30 am on Monday, Shillong recorded 14.6 mm of rains, Cherrapunji 14.2 mm, Barapani 8 mm, Kohima 5 mm, Dhubri 0.8 mm and Agartala witnessed light spells of 0.4 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is over North Bangladesh and adjoining areas. Thus, the intensity of the rains would increase, and good rainfall would continue for the next 48 hours over many parts of the northeastern states. In addition to this, one or two heavy spells are also possible. These rains would affect the northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.

Thereafter, this weather system is likely to prevail over the region with slight oscillation to east and west until April 22 or 23. Therefore, we expect on and off thundershowers with strong winds to continue until April 22 or 23.

Henceforth, this weather system would weaken and may move towards west over West Bengal or Bihar leading to a significant reduction in the rainfall activities over the region. However, the temperatures would continue to remain below normal and the weather would remain comfortable with cloud cover and rain activities.
