Rain in Uttar Pradesh

The rains over Uttar Pradesh continued over the state on the last day as well. The state of Bihar also recorded some rains after witnessing a dry spell. In fact, for the last three to four days, the state has been witnessing intense showers.

Almost the entire stretch from West Uttar Pradesh to eastern parts of the state recorded Monsoon rains. However, the rains over Bihar remained scattered light.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Friday, Shahjahanpur recorded 71 mm of rains, Purnea 57 mm, Gorakhpur 54 mm, Lucknow 34 mm, Gaya 33 mm, Bahraich 23 mm, Muzaffarpur 19 mm, Ghazipur 12 mm, Bareilly 13 mm, Kanpur 14 mm, Fursatganj 8 mm, Varanasi 4 mm, and Supaul recorded 2 mm of rains.

These rains were on account of the low-pressure area that has been persisting over the region. This system was responsible for giving moderate to heavy rains at many places over Uttar Pradesh with scattered moderate with isolated heavy showers over Bihar.

As the low-pressure area has become less marked now and lies as a cyclonic circulation over the eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh and East Bihar, the rain belt would shift towards the foothills of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

This would increase the rains over the foothills of West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar in the next 24 hours. The intensity of rains would remain moderate to isolated heavy. These areas may witness moderate lightning at a few parts as well. The activity would continue as the system may intensify as a low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal around August 6 and is likely to move west-northwestwards.

Due to continuous rains, the water level of rivers in both the states like Gomti, Ghaghra, Saryu, and Ramganga in Uttar Pradesh and Narayani, Bagmati, and Koshi in Bihar may also rise.

Moreover, the rains in the hills of Nepal would also contribute to increasing the water level. These incessant rains may also trigger flood like situation over the foothills of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Hence, caution against flood is advised for Rampur, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Khiri, and Pilibhit.
