Chhattisgarh and Odisha have been recording on and off light to moderate rainy spells since many days. In the past day also both the states recorded mainly light rains with one or two moderate rainy spells.
In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh recorded heavy rain of 48.1 mm. Meanwhile, Pendra witnessed moderate rain of 16.5mm. Durg witnessed light intensity rain of 6.8 mm, Jagdalpur 3.2 mm and Ambikapur 2.1 mm of rain.

In the same span of time, Balasore recorded moderate rain of 12.8 mm. While Puri recorded light rain of 9.8 mm, Koraput 6 mm, Chanbali 5.6 mm, Sambalpur 3.6 mm and Angul 3 mm of rain.

As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which is persisting over Chhattisgarh and is extending up to mid tropospheric level. The axis of Monsoon trough is also running across Chhattisgarh and Odisha towards Bay of Bengal.
These combined weather systems will continue pouring rain over both the states. Moderate intensity rain is expected over the south western parts of the state while, northeastern parts will witness scattered light rains only during the next 24 hours. It is anticipated that good rains will continue over Chhattisgarh even after 24 hours however rainfall activity will reduce over Odisha.
