The states of Punjab and Haryana have experienced rain and thundershower activities with overcast sky during the last 48 hours.

Data-wise, Pathankot in Punjab has recorded 11 mm of rainfall, followed by Chandigarh 9.9, Patiala 8.4 mm and Ludhiana 5.8 mm. In Haryana, Narnaul has recorded 14 mm of rainfall, followed by Faridabad 11 mm, Chandigarh 9.9 mm, Ambala 7.3 mm, Gurugram 7 mm and Hisar 5.6 mm.

According to Skymet Weather, the reason for these rains can be attributed to a Western Disturbance present over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir and its induced Cyclonic Circulation over Northwest Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Punjab.

Moreover, due to occurrence of rain and prevalence of cold winds from north directions, the day temperatures have significantly reduced over both the states.

Further, we expect these conditions to remain intact for the next 36 hours, and places such as Amritsar, Pathankot, Chandigarh, Patiala, Ludhiana, Ambala, Rohtak, Sirsa, Karnal, Hisar, Gurugram will witness rains. There are also chances of hailstorm at one or two places of these states which may lead to crop damage.

In wake of these activities, day temperatures will settle between 18℃ and 20℃, while night temperatures will hover around 9℃.

March 5 onward, these activities will reduce over Punjab and Haryana, which would make maximums to increase once again while minimums to drop marginally over the states.
