As predicted by Skymet Weather, on Monday, fairly widespread rain and snowfall activities of varying intensity from heavy to light were observed over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir and few places of Himachal Pradesh.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Banihal recorded 28 mm of rain, followed by Batote 20 mm, Gulmarg 19.6 mm, Katra 17 mm, Pahalgam 13 mm, Jammu 6 mm, Qazigund 5.6 mm, Kinnaur 4.6 mm, Kullu 1.2 mm and Srinagar 0.8 mm. In Himachal Pradesh, Kalpa recorded 9 mm, Manali 4.4 mm, Chamba 3 mm and Keylong 2 mm.

At present, the Western Disturbance persists over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir region and its induced cyclonic circulation also lies over the northwestern plains of India.

In wake of this system, we expect isolated light to moderate rain and snow to continue over parts of Jammu and Kashmir along with few pockets of Himachal Pradesh for another 48 hours.

However, the intensity of these weather activities will keep on decreasing now as the main impact of this system has already been observed.

Talking about the temperatures, during the last 24 hours, a sharp dip in day and night temperatures was observed over most places of Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, Banihal district recorded its maximum temperature at 8.3˚C, which was seven degrees below the normal.

Further, after 24 to 48 hours, once the weather starts clearing up, both day and night temperatures will also start rising across the hilly region.
