More rain likely in Earthquake hit Nepal

April 27, 2015 1:15 PM |

Nepal earthquakeWet conditions have been prevailing in Nepal with intermittent rain being observed for the last few days. Though this weather is expected to continue in the region for another 72 hours, a brief improvement in the conditions is likely on Monday. The sky will open up for 3-4 hours, allowing some sunshine in the region, particularly in the Kathmandu valley. By the second half of the day the weather will again become cloudy with possibility of thunderstorms.

The mountainous terrain of the region is susceptible to bad weather during this time. A lot of moisture is generally prevalent in the atmosphere, which with little heating results in rain. Another factor (Western Disturbance), though not very important, also gives rain in the region during this time.

The Western Disturbance moving across do not affect the country directly but the passage of the system manifests in clouding and thunderstorm over this Himalayan region. Currently there is a WD in Jammu and Kashmir, which is causing rainfall in Srinagar. This system is likely to move eastwards across the foothills in next 24 and cause some weather activity in Nepal and East India.

This weather condition is likely to hamper rescue operations which are being carried out on a massive scale. According to media reports over 3000 people have died in this calamity so far. And with rescue operations going on in full swing the toll could rise further.
