Updated on March 21, 2016: Light to moderate rain has been lashing parts of Northeast India for the past two days. Areas including Upper Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh have recorded good amounts of rain.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Cherrapunji recorded a good 31 mm of rain, Itanagar 26.9 mm, Anni 26 mm, Dhubri 20.2 mm, Jorhat 23.8 mm, Silchar 20.6 mm, Mangan 23.4 mm, Kailashahar 23.4 mm, Kohima 6.4 mm, Golaghat 4.2 mm, and Tawang 3 mm.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, light to moderate rain will continue over Northeast India for another 24 hours.
The trough extending from East Assam to North Bay of Bengal persists and will give more rain over the region.
Thereafter, the intensity of rain will reduce from the region significantly. However, areas including Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will receive some rain for another day or two.
These rains have resulted in a drop of temperatures and will result in the fall of both maximums and minimums even further.
Story First Published on March 20, 2016: Northeast India has been receiving good showers for the past 24 hours.
After remaining dry for quite some time, rains have once again made an appearance in the states of the seven sisters and adjoining areas.
Good rains have particularly lashed Upper Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Silchar recorded a good 27 mm of rain, Golaghat 4 mm, Tezpur 0.4 mm, Cherrapunji 4 mm, Shillong 2 mm, Anni 4 mm, Tawang 1 mm, and Champhai 1 mm rain.
An upper air cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas. Also, a trough from East Assam to Jharkhand now extends up to Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal. These systems together have resulted in good rains across Northeast India.
These areas have been recording temperatures close to the normal levels with afternoons being warm and humid. Thunderclouds usually develop during the early afternoon to evening hours.
During the next 24 hours, thunderstorm and thunder squalls are likely over Northeast India. Squally winds may reach up to 70-80 kmph.
Hailstorm may occur over isolated areas as well. These conditions will continue for another 48 hours. However, rain intensity will reduce after that.
