More rain in the offing for East and Northeast India

The cyclonic circulation over west-central Bay of Bengal off the North Andhra and South Odisha coast is gaining latitude with height. Good rains will continue over parts of Peninsular India, some areas of South Odisha, Coastal Gangetic plains along with NMMT (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura).

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Gangtok in Sikkim received a good 52.8 mm rain, followed by Chandbali where 30 mm rainfall was recorded. Bhubaneswar in Odisha observed 20 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours. Also, many areas in West Bengal including the city of joy, Kolkata received rain.

During the next few days, isolated rainfall activity is likely over various parts of Interior Odisha, Jharkhand, the Gangetic plains and the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The hills of West Bengal may receive moderate to heavy rain.

Normally, before Northeast Monsoon makes a grand entry into the southern parts of India, the northeastern states of India including Coastal Odisha, the Gangetic plains and Jharkhand do receive light rain with moderate to heavy falls over some places.

After three days, there will be a gradual increase in rain over these areas. Also, the Gangetic plains and Odisha will receive good rains after 3 to 4 days.
