Updated on January 19, 2015 04:30 PM (IST): Madhya Pradesh records good rain, Jharkhand and Bihar next
As predicted by Skymet Weather, Madhya Pradesh has recorded fairly widespread light to moderate rain over several places during the last 24 hours.
Intensity of rain was more over West Madhya Pradesh, as compared to other parts of the state.
In span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Bhopal recorded 21 mm of rain, Sagar 19 mm, Khajuraho 10 mm, Satna 13 mm, Jabalpur 7 mm and Guna 6 mm.
This weather activity can be attributed to the confluence zone marked over the region. The interaction between dry and cold winds from the North, and moist winds from the Bay of Bengal, has resulted in a confluence zone over Central India.
Skymet predicts this weather activity to continue for another 24 hours, but with reduced intensity. The system will now shift eastward and so will the rain belt.
Parts of East India such as Jharkhand and Bihar will now start witnessing light to moderate showers.
Updated on January 18, 2015 18:30 PM (IST): Light rain observed over Central and East India, more in the offing
After witnessing dry weather conditions for a few days, rains finally made an appearance over Central and East India. While rainfall remained light in intensity, temperatures saw a marginal drop.
More rain is in the offing for Central India including the states of Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.
Parts of East India including Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal are also expected to observe light rainfall activity.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Jabalpur and Bhopal, recorded 3.5 mm of rain each. Other areas to receive rain were Ambikapur 1 mm, Pendra 3 mm, Ranchi 0.1 mm, Hoshangabad 3 mm, Sagar 0.4 mm, Bilaspur 0.1 mm, and Bankura 0.1 mm.
The confluence zone continued to persist over Central India extending towards the eastern parts of the country. The rain belt, over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha has further extended towards parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, South Bihar, and West Bengal.
During the next 24 hours, isolated pockets of Central India are likely to receive more rain. Not only this, but isolated hailstorm is also expected over parts of East Madhya Pradesh and North Chhattisgarh. Cloudy conditions will persist over other parts of the region.
These rains will result in a significant drop in the day temperatures. The maximums are likely to fall below the normal levels. However, the minimums are likely to remain the same with a marginal drop in some pockets of the region.
