As predicted by Skymet Weather, Tuesday saw widespread rain and thundershower activities in many parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Chapra recorded 24 mm of rain, followed by Bhagalpur 19 mm, Supaul 7 mm, Forbesganj 4 mm and Purnea 2 mm.
In the wake of these rains, day temperatures over most parts of Bihar dropped significantly by almost 8˚C to 9˚C. On Tuesday, Supaul recorded its maximum temperature at 26˚C, followed by Forbesganj 28˚C and Purnea 27˚C.
These weather activities have been attributed to the trough extending from Rajasthan to West Bengal across parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. This trough is quite prominent and is expected to persist for the next three days as well.
Therefore, we expect rain and thundershower activities to continue in parts of Bihar and Jharkhand. As pre-Monsoon season is going on, these rains will be accompanied with violent thunderstorm, lightning strikes and strong surface winds. Weather activities will occur towards the latter half of the day.
In Jharkhand, the eastern half of the state i.e. places like Bokaro, Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Deogarh will witness these weather activities. Whereas in Bihar, places which lie along the foothills such as Bhagalpur, Chapra, Purnea and Supaul will observe maximum amount of rains.
Bihar and Jharkhand have witnessed different weather activities. In March, Bihar was largely rain deficient by 64%, whereas Jharkhand had received good rains and was surplus by 13%. Similarly, moving towards April, in the wake of widespread rains, Jharkhand has become largely rain surplus by 65% and covering up its deficiency to some extent, Bihar has also received near normal rains.
Now, we can say that in the coming days, due to continuous rain and thundershowers, Bihar may also cover up the the rainfall deficiency. Jharkhand has already become the second state after West Bengal to witness large surplus.
