Rains have finally helped the state of Maharashtra to get rid of dry weather conditions. All thanks to the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Vayu that has been responsible for giving rains over the entire state.
Now, the system has moved away but its outer peripheral clouds are affecting Maharashtra. Moreover, strong winds from the southwest direction are blowing in the region which are responsible for initiating rains.
In addition to these systems, a Trough is extending from coastal Karnataka up to Kerala. This Trough is moving across the Maharashtra coast. Thus, good on and off rains are expected to continue over the entire coastal area of Maharashtra including Mumbai, until the arrival of Monsoon.
During the next 24 hours, rains are likely over Mahabaleshwar, Vengurla, Matheran, Dahanu, Satara, Kolhapur and Santa Cruz.
Since the last two to three days, moderate to heavy rains have been going on in Konkan and Goa, while scattered over Madhya Maharashtra.
During the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Thursday, the state has observed some good showers, wherein Mahabaleshwar has recorded 81 mm of rainfall, followed by Vengurla 56 mm, Matheran 27 mm and Dahanu 24 mm.

Usually, by this time, Monsoon covers the entire state of Maharashtra. However, due to its sluggish progress in South India, the residents of Maharashtra have to wait a little more time before welcoming the Monsoon. Until then, on and off rains would continue in the state.
