The northern hills of the country have witnessed good amount of rain and snow this season. These rainy and snowy episodes broke the prolonged dry spell that the hills of North India were observing during November and December.

It was after the approach of back to back Western Disturbances that some of the popular tourist attractions were covered under the white quilt of snow. The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir including Gulmarg, Qazigund, Leh and Kupwara were engulfed with snow.

As per Skymet Weather, another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region by tonight. Hence, parts of Jammu and Kashmir including a few regions of Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand are likely to continue to witness light rain and snow till February 17.

Thereafter, the intensity of rain and snow is expected to increase and many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to witness moderate rain and snow. However, heavy snow accumulations are also likely over one or two places across the hills of North India.

As per Skymet Weather, after the passage of this weather system, another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to approach the Western Himalayas soon. And hence, the similar weather pattern is likely to stay in the hills of North India until February 20 or February 21. The intensity of rain and snow may vary but the weather will not be clear until February 21.

Skymet Weather also states that the frequency of Western Disturbances in the forthcoming time will become less as compared with those during the month of January and February. Moreover, their intensity and strength is also lesser than those during the extreme winter months and therefore they would pass by very quickly not affecting the region much.
